Meet your committee….

The Shoreham Community Association invites new members to apply to be committee members and office bearers at its mid year annual general meeting. It believes that a wide ranging skillset is critical for it to best represent the interests of local residents and holiday makers.

To keep the community up to date with local events and endeavours we email SCA members a news updates several times a year.

We also post regularly on Facebook as Shoreham Community Association and on Instagram as Shoreham Community.

Officeholders:

President: Russell Barrett

Frighteningly, I have known Flinders for 65 years, and 18 years ago “jumped ship” and moved to Shoreham where I have been a resident ever since. I still remain connected to the Flinders community through the Historic Society and St John’s Church, as well as being a very bad golfer.

I continue running my architectural practice whilst indulging in one of my great passions of gardening. I am also recognisable when seen driving my 1924 Vauxhall or other elderly cars around Shoreham. I’ve been president of the Shoreham Community Association for quite a few years.

Vice president: Sue Boggan

I have been fortunate to be a part of the SCA since its beginnings in 2009. As part of the team, I have been committed to ensuring Shoreham is protected from large-scale development and ensuring our green landscape and bushland remains. Protecting our wildlife habitat is another commitment. I helped form a “Friends Bushland Working Group” several years ago and the residents who volunteer their time and commitment over the years are much appreciated.

Secretary: David Day

I have lived permanently in Shoreham for eight years. Before that, I used to come down to the Pines to surf my kayak. I found I just unwound as I got to the Shoreham sign so when retirement approached we decided to move down here. I joined the SCA as secretary 2021, a position I held for a year. Having completed a "Nature Stewards" course, my interests centre on environmental and nature areas and, on return from our recent trip, plan on assisting Sue in the fantastic work she does. I did many of the walks in the Shoreham Walks book to help put that masterpiece together.

Treasurer: Artie Shearman

I grew up in Mentone and had an early association with Shoreham through attending the camp in Marine Parade on a number of occasions. I practiced as a solicitor, then moved into retail and property development and am now mainly retired.  I have been a member of the SCA for a few years and now that my wife Clare and I are living in Shoreham permanently, I wanted to be more involved.  We lived in England for a few years and ran a small retreat.  Upon our return to Australia we moved into The Cliffs and have been running the retreat since.  We arrived in early 2020 just before COVID and found that Shoreham was a very nice place to be in lockdown.

Robert Burns

My wife Allyson and I first stayed in Shoreham some 35 years ago, renting a house in Marine Parade for holidays with our young family and our friends. Two years ago we bought our own house. We loved the peaceful environment, the restful pace of life and the wonderful beaches. I support the SCA’s endeavour to maintain those features. Both my career as a lawyer and the volunteer work I have done on many boards have given me a keen appreciation and understanding of what is needed to run the association smoothly and efficiently.

Lee Collins

I moved to Shoreham in 1981 after renting in Main Ridge with my partner, Malcolm Nicolson (a keen surfer, hence the Shoreham destination) after we spent several years building a mud brick house. I was a secondary teacher before retiring in 2011. I joined the SCA at its first AGM in that year. My main interests and involvement are those relating to and promoting social connections. To this end, I and others promote and support monthly morning teas, monthly pickle club (preserves) meetings, community dinners, and various other social events that he SCA co-ordinates throughout the year.

Andrew Goddard

I am a retired consulting actuary and have lived in Shoreham since 2005. I love the birds, the koalas and yes, I like the rabbits, too. I  knew the committee needed new members last year and I was happy to help.  I am particularly interested in monitoring and, where appropriate responding to, new planning applications. I appreciate the community feel of Shoreham and it is also a great place to walk and to enjoy doing so away from traffic and crowds. The community is very supportive and small enough that we can get to know many of the other residents.

Belinda Hawkins

I started coming to Shoreham as a teenager where I fell in love with the quiet beaches, the trees, the bird life and the laughter around my university friend's family table. When my parents left Melbourne for Red Hill, the attachment to Shoreham grew. Then, about 15 years ago, my husband and I bought our own place. I started my working life as a secondary school teacher before joining the ABC as a television news cadet - I clocked up 36 years in public broadcasting. I am hoping I can use my background in media to contribute to the committee’s goals of community building and communication.

Lisa How

It was sometime in the 70’s that I first visited Shoreham and surrounds, mostly attracted by the beautiful beaches. I have witnessed many changes over the ensuing years. I have been a full-time resident of Shoreham since 2014, originally commuting up to Melbourne for work as a nurse. We bought an ‘80s beach house and spent about two years gutting and renovating. Work on the outside is still in progress. I joined the SCA around 2016 as I fancied some social connection and wanted to help in the community. I manage the defibrillators around Shoreham and work on various subcommittees such as communications, social events, Pickles and preserves club, and environmental issues (friends of Shoreham Gardening Gatherings).  I love living in Shoreham and am grateful every day I do!
