Shoreham Market
In 2020, Shoreham local chippy Dylan Candy was chatting with the unofficial town “mayor”, Roderick Mckillop, when Rod said: “Do you know what Shoreham really needs? A MARKET!” Following on from this conversation, Dylan got together with his brother-in-law Harrison, and good friend Leyla to start the Shoreham Community Market in 2021. It began with about 20 stalls, with the aim of getting our community together.
Four years on, the market has grown to become a regular for people to connect through local produce, arts and crafts, small businesses, cultural demonstrations, children's activities, music, yoga and the odd animal encounter. It has grown to around 50 stalls and offerings are made with love, creating a warm and welcoming experience.
The market is now a registered not-for-profit run by a committee along with the ongoing help of many locals.
Excitingly, over the past year (2024-25), the market has funded its own organic market garden based in Shoreham. We have worked with generous local Sue Humphries on her beautiful 11 acre farm. With the help of volunteers, it produces seasonal vegetables, flowers, berries and fruit. Our aim is to build local food production and sustainability, educate and empower people to grow their own food and to make organic produce affordable.
Get in touch if you want to come play some music, help out with odd jobs on the day or come and get involved with growing local food. You may even have excess fruit in your backyard to bring down.
Winter markets are happening in 2025. See you on the third Sunday of the month, 9am to 2pm, next to the Shoreham Tennis Club.
