Walking Tour - Shoreham

Sunday, 9 March, on a very hot day, a special community event was held. It was a guided tour of our fascinating village, highlighting the history, the people, the landscape and buildings of note directed by Russell Barrett our President.

Beginning at the Old School Hall (now the Community Hall) on Byrnes Road, we learned about some of the earliest buildings in Shoreham, the people who lived in them, discovered our postmasters and mistresses, and the stories of how our social and sporting activities got going. Visits included the Wright Brothers Saw Mill, the "Cliffs” boarding house, the Catholic Church and much more!

The walk took 1.5 hours and has was organised with the help of the Flinders District Historical Society.

A booklet was provided and chats followed in the school hall with informed members of our community.

A delicious and cooling Afternoon Tea was provided by members of the Community to end the day.
