Drainage on Marine Parade
Drainage problems on Marine Parade
The Mornington Peninsula Shire Council has allocated $40,000 for a review of drainage on Marine Parade. We’re working with Council staff to ensure that residents’ concerns are heard.
This follows the successful drainage works in on Sydney Road and the May Street area.
The SCA plans to hold a public meeting so that the community can be fully informed and provide input.
In the meantime, there is lots you can do to help now.
Most areas in Shoreham are linked to rural stormwater drainage. These consist of the open drains, generally found along the sides of roads, that collect all stormwater run-off, and ultimately join on the low side of the road and then connect to a main barrel drain or open waterway which drain to a creek or coastal outlet.
There are things property owners should be doing to improve the efficacy of the system:
· Ensure your culvert meets council standards which is 300mm in diameter;
· Have driveway ends which prevent erosion into the downstream drain;
· Ensure runoff is directed to the open drain and not onto the road;
· Keep open drains clear of rubbish and blockages to facilitate the effectiveness of the drain.
· We can also reduce runoff from our properties by installing rain water tanks and by having permeable driveway surfaces rather than hard pavement.
If you see problems with the drainage, use the Snap Send Solve app to report these to the Shire.
